BANGKOK TRAVEL HAIR GUIDE

When to Book Keratin, Balayage or Perm During a Bangkok Trip

Plan water activities, salon timing and the first two days after treatment.

The short answer: look at the first two full days after your proposed salon appointment. If those two days include an island trip, swimming, a pool, onsen, sauna, steam room, wet spa ritual or any other plan that will wet the hair, move the service until after that activity. Keratin (including Brazilian Keratin), Balayage, Highlights, Full Hair Colour or Hair Color, Digital Perm, Cold Perm, Straightening, Permanent Straightening and Hair Botox all require two days with no washing and no water contact. Once two full days have passed, you may wash or wet the hair again.

Bangkok can make this timing easy to overlook. Travellers may want freshly finished hair while the same holiday includes a hotel pool, beach trip, onsen or spa treatment involving steam, oil or a wet scalp. The useful question is not what the hair was like before those activities. It is whether the hair will be washed or wet during the first two full days after the service.

The 60-Second Trip Planner

Use this four-step sequence before choosing an appointment time:

  1. Choose a possible appointment time. Allow the real service duration rather than using any free afternoon by default.
  2. Check the next two full days. Look for swimming, islands, pools, onsen, sauna, steam, wet spa rituals, rain exposure or heavy sweat that would make the hair wet.
  3. Move whichever plan creates the conflict. If water exposure falls inside those first two days, complete that activity before the salon or move the appointment until afterward.
  4. Protect only the required window. Use dry, controllable activities during the first two days. After two full days, you may wash or wet the hair again.

If your trip cannot provide the required two-day no-water window after the appointment, move the service until after the conflicting activity—or choose a genuinely flexible service such as a Haircut or a suitable rinse-out Treatment whose confirmed guidance fits the itinerary.

Why Water, Steam and Sweat Change the Plan

The point is not that a stray drop automatically ruins every result. Different services have different setting and maintenance needs. Travel simply creates more uncontrolled exposure than an ordinary day at home, so sequencing removes avoidable conflicts.

Sea Water and Chlorinated Pools

Schedule beach, island and pool activities only after two full days have passed since the service. Even a quick swim can wet the entire head, so a swim cap cannot replace the no-water rule during those first two days.

Special care for coloured hair: although water contact may resume after two full days, hair treated with Balayage, Highlights or Full Hair Colour or Hair Color should avoid chlorinated pools whenever practical. Chlorine can accelerate fading, alter the tone and increase dryness; sea water and sun exposure can also make fading and dryness more noticeable. If swimming cannot be avoided, wear a well-fitting swim cap, keep the exposure brief, rinse away salt or chlorine with fresh water as soon as practical and use your usual suitable conditioner.

Other treated hair: after two full days, wear a well-fitting swim cap when swimming in the sea or a chlorinated pool if you have had Keratin (including Brazilian Keratin), Hair Botox, Digital Perm, Cold Perm, Straightening or Permanent Straightening. A cap can reduce exposure, but it cannot guarantee that the hair will remain dry and cannot replace the initial two-day no-water rule.

UV and Heat

Bangkok heat does not create a universal ban on going outside. The practical issue during the first two days is whether perspiration will make the hair wet. Choose shade, air-conditioning and a controllable pace when a long outdoor plan would cause heavy sweating inside that window.

Steam, Sauna and Onsen

Steam and onsen visits can make the hair damp even when you do not intend to shampoo. For every service listed in this guide, keep onsen, sauna and steam-room visits outside the first two days.

Heavy Sweat

A gentle walk and a workout in tropical heat are not the same itinerary item. Heavy sweat that makes the hair wet conflicts with the first two days. Schedule intense exercise, long exposed walks and other high-sweat plans before the appointment or after two full days.

Hair Oils, Scalp Massage and Wet Spa Rituals

“Spa” is too broad to classify on its name alone. A dry body massage may not involve the hair, while another package may include scalp oil, shampoo, steam or a wet head treatment. Check the selected ritual, not just the venue. If it will wet the hair, place it before the salon or after two full days.

Which Services Need Two Days Without Washing or Water?

The shared decision is simple: if you cannot protect the first two days, do not squeeze the appointment between a pool morning and an island departure. The details then depend on the service.

Keratin (Including Brazilian Keratin)

Water rule: after a Keratin treatment, including Brazilian Keratin, allow two days with no washing and no water contact. This includes swimming, rain, onsen, sauna, steam and heavy sweat that wets the hair.

Why the order matters: Keratin is a poor fit when a beach transfer, pool day or steam-based wellness booking falls inside the next two full days. Move the water activity before the salon or move Keratin until afterward. After two full days, washing and water activities can resume. See Oilly’s Keratin aftercare guide for routine home care.

After two days, wear a swim cap if you enter sea water or a chlorinated pool to reduce exposure.

Final-day suitability: avoid treating it as a last-minute pre-flight errand. You need time for the full appointment and the two-day no-water period afterward.

Balayage, Highlights and Full Hair Colour

Water rule: after Balayage, Highlights and Full Hair Colour or Hair Color, allow two days with no washing and no water contact.

Why the order matters: for Balayage, schedule the beach first and book the colour afterward. For every colour route in this section, do not swim during the first two days. Even after that period, coloured hair should avoid chlorinated pools whenever practical because chlorine can accelerate fading and affect the tone; sea water and sun may also increase fading and dryness. If swimming cannot be avoided, wear a swim cap and keep the exposure brief.

Final-day suitability: complex Balayage and major colour work can take a long appointment window. Do not place them immediately before a flight or another fixed departure.

Digital Perm, Cold Perm, Straightening and Permanent Straightening

Water rule: Digital Perm, Cold Perm, Straightening and Permanent Straightening require two days with no washing and no water contact.

Why the order matters: a swim, steam visit or wet spa ritual during the first two days conflicts with the rule. After two full days, washing, water activities and normal water-based curl refreshing can resume.

After two days, wear a swim cap when swimming in the sea or a chlorinated pool to reduce exposure.

Final-day suitability: these are not ideal services to compress against a flight. Leave room to understand the result, receive service-specific styling guidance and maintain the required dry schedule.

See Oilly’s Perm guide for service context.

Hair Botox

Water rule: after Hair Botox, allow two days with no washing and no water contact.

Why the order matters: pool, sea, rain, steam or a wet spa booking would interrupt that opening window, so put those plans first. For the travel activities covered in this guide, Hair Botox follows the same two-day timing precautions as Keratin. After two full days, washing and water activities can resume.

After two days, wear a swim cap if you enter sea water or a chlorinated pool to reduce exposure.

Final-day suitability: preserve a practical buffer rather than assuming any treatment belongs in the final hours before departure.

The Flexible Comparison: Haircut and Rinse-Out Treatment

A Haircut and a rinse-out Treatment do not automatically inherit the two-day rule. That is why the exact booking matters. A straightforward cut may fit a short Bangkok stopover more comfortably, and a Treatment that is rinsed out in the salon may have different guidance from every chemical route above.

Do not use “Treatment” as a catch-all label. Confirm what is actually being booked and follow that service’s current instructions. Oilly’s Hair Treatment page is the appropriate starting point. If your itinerary cannot support two dry days, ask about a genuinely flexible option rather than relabelling a chemical service to make the timing appear easier.

Sample Itinerary Patterns

These are patterns, not promises that one timetable fits every head of hair or every flight.

A Three-Day Bangkok Stopover

A three-day visit offers little room for a major service and two protected days. If a pool, onsen or high-sweat tour would fall inside the two-day window, move that activity earlier, move the service later, or choose a Haircut or confirmed flexible rinse-out Treatment. Book a listed service only when the full no-water window fits without pressure.

A Five-Day Bangkok Trip

Choose the salon day by checking the following two full days. If swimming, onsen, steam or another wet activity appears in that window, move it earlier or move the appointment later. Use dry, controllable plans only during those two days; water activities after the window do not need to be moved for this rule.

Seven Days: Beach or Island First, Bangkok Second

One simple pattern is to complete the beach or island segment, return to Bangkok, have the salon appointment, and use the next two full days for dry activities. It is also acceptable to have the salon appointment earlier when the beach or island activity starts only after those two full days.

Bangkok First, Island Second

If the island segment cannot move, count backward from it. Keratin (including Brazilian Keratin), Balayage, Highlights, Full Hair Colour or Hair Color, Digital Perm, Cold Perm, Straightening, Permanent Straightening and Hair Botox can fit before the island only when two full no-wash, no-water days are complete before the island begins. Otherwise, choose a Haircut or confirmed flexible Treatment, or postpone the listed service until after the island.

If the Itinerary Changes After Your Appointment

Return to the same fixed two-day rule and focus on preventing further exposure. Do not improvise a universal “rescue” method from advice written for another service.

  • Rain immediately after the service: all listed services require two days with no washing and no water contact. Get under cover and keep the hair away from further water.
  • An unexpected pool invitation: do not swim during the first two days; a swim cap cannot replace the no-water rule. Wait until two full days have passed, then wear a swim cap to reduce contact with sea water or chlorine.
  • Heavy sweat: move the workout or high-heat activity and choose a cool, dry setting instead.
  • A very hot hotel shower: keep the hair outside the water and steam during the first two days.

18 Places to Arrange Before, After or Conditionally Around the Salon

The locations below were checked on 1 October 2026. They are independent editorial references, not Oilly partners, sponsors or endorsers. Recheck hours, closures and the exact spa package before travelling.

Schedule These Before the Salon If They Would Fall Inside the First Two Days

1. Yunomori Onsen & Spa — Sathorn 10

The onsen and related heat exposure can wet or dampen the hair. If this visit would fall inside the first two days, move it before the salon or until after the window. Official Yunomori Sathorn 10 page · Open in Google Maps

2. Let’s Relax Onsen and Spa Bangkok Thonglor

This branch offers onsen, sauna and steam-room facilities. If the visit would fall inside the first two days, move it before the salon or until after the window. Official Thonglor branch page · Open in Google Maps

4. Columbia Pictures Aquaverse — Na Jomtien

12. River City Bangkok

Indoor art, galleries and antiques fit a dry day. A river boat or long outdoor pier visit is a separate decision because of wind, spray and heat. Official visitor page · Open in Google Maps

Check the Exact Package, Weather or Activity First

15. PAÑPURI WELLNESS — Gaysorn Tower

Classify the booking, not the whole venue. A bathing ritual or pool-based experience must sit before the salon or after two full days; a dry treatment may fit elsewhere. Official Gaysorn Tower page · Open in Google Maps

16. Health Land Spa & Massage — Sathorn

An ordinary dry body, Thai or foot massage can fit a dry itinerary. A selected ritual involving scalp oil, hydrotherapy, steam or hair contact must sit before the salon or after two full days. Confirm the exact package and branch availability. Official Sathorn branch page · Open in Google Maps

17. The Jim Thompson House Museum

The guided house visit is dry, but parts of the tropical compound are outdoors. Use it after the salon only when the weather and pace will not make the hair wet with sweat. Official visitor information · Open in Google Maps

18. Mahanakhon SkyWalk at King Power Mahanakhon

The 74th-floor indoor deck is the lower-risk option. The rooftop deck adds sun, wind, humidity and possible sweat, so choose the indoor portion or cooler conditions during the protected period. Official SkyWalk page · Open in Google Maps

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I Get Keratin Before or After an Island Trip?

Either order can work. If the island trip would begin inside the first two full days after Keratin, do the island first or move Keratin until afterward. Keratin can be scheduled before the island when two full no-water days are complete before the water activity begins.

Can I Swim After Keratin Treatment?

Not during the first two full days. After two full days, swimming is allowed again.

Can I Visit an Onsen, Sauna or Steam Room After Keratin?

Not during the first two days. After two full days, onsen, sauna and steam-room visits are allowed again.

Should I Book Balayage Before or After the Beach?

Go to the beach first, then book Balayage. The hair must not get wet during the first two days after Balayage. Even after those two days, sea-water exposure is not recommended for coloured hair because salt and sun can accelerate fading and increase dryness. If the trip cannot avoid it, wear a swim cap, limit exposure, rinse with fresh water as soon as possible after leaving the sea and use your usual suitable conditioner.

Can I Wash or Swim During the First Two Days After Balayage or Hair Colour?

No. Balayage, Highlights and Full Hair Colour or Hair Color require two days with no washing and no water contact.

Can I Swim Once the Two Full Days Are Complete?

Yes, but treated hair still benefits from protection. Coloured hair should avoid chlorinated pools whenever practical because chlorine can accelerate fading, alter the tone and increase dryness; sea water and sun can also make fading and dryness more noticeable. After Keratin, Hair Botox, Perm or Straightening, wear a swim cap when swimming in the sea or a chlorinated pool to reduce exposure. A swim cap cannot replace the initial two-day no-water period.

When Should I Book a Digital Perm During a Bangkok Trip?

Book it after swimming, onsen, steam and other wet activities, with two water-free days available afterward and a buffer before departure. A Cold Perm follows the same initial two-day no-water rule.

Can I Wash or Wet My Hair During the First Two Days After a Perm?

No. Digital Perm and Cold Perm require two days with no washing and no water contact. Water-based Cold Perm curl refreshing applies only after that initial period.

Does Straightening Require Two Days Without Washing or Water?

Yes. Straightening and Permanent Straightening require two days with no washing and no water contact. After two full days, washing and water activities can resume.

Does Hair Botox Require Two Days Without Washing or Water?

Yes. Hair Botox follows the same two-day no-wash, no-water timing as Keratin. After two full days, washing and water activities can resume.

Is It Safe to Book a Chemical Service on My Final Day in Bangkok?

It is not a good default. Major services need their full appointment time, accurate service-specific instructions and a practical buffer before travel. Choose an earlier slot or a genuinely flexible service if your departure schedule is tight.

What Should I Send Oilly Before Booking?

Send clear current-hair photos, your chemical and colour history, the result you prefer, your Bangkok dates, and any fixed pool, beach, onsen, spa or flight plans. This helps the team identify the suitable service route before you submit an actual service booking.

Plan the Service Around the Trip—Not the Trip Around Emergency Aftercare

A workable Bangkok hair appointment has one main timing test: will the hair be washed or wet during the first two full days afterward? If yes, move the water activity earlier or the service later. If no, the appointment fits this article’s two-day rule.

Send Oilly your current-hair photos, chemical history, preferred result and Bangkok dates through WhatsApp or LINE. The team can help identify the suitable service route before you submit an actual service request through Booking. Booking is for an actual service request only; Oilly does not offer a separately bookable standalone consultation.
