Black Hair Color Removal in Bangkok: From Box-Dyed Black to Soft Brown
A Color Removal case for a client with home black dye and color shampoo buildup, changed into a softer natural brown with treatment support and layered shaping.
Soft natural brown after black hair color removal
Black / Dark Color Removal + Treatment Support + Layer Cut
The heavy black buildup was softened into a brighter brown tone, grey hair looked less contrasted, and the layered haircut gave the back view more movement.
Case goal
The client had previously colored her hair at home with black color shampoo and box dye. The dark pigment had built up inside the hair, making the overall look heavy and difficult to brighten with regular hair color alone. The goal was to create a softer, lighter look that made the face appear brighter while helping visible grey hair look less obvious.
Why black dye must be removed first
Black dye from box color or color shampoo can sit inside the hair in several layers. If a lighter color is applied directly on top, the new shade may not show clearly and the result can become uneven. This case therefore started as Color Removal before the final brown shade was designed.
Strand test before the full service
For black hair color removal, a strand test is important before the full service. It helps the stylist see how strongly the old pigment is attached and how much lift is realistic for that visit. At Oilly, we explain the possible result and limitations before starting.
Process designed by Oilly
For this case, we used a dedicated black/dark color remover cream rather than bleach powder as the main method. During and after the removal process, treatment support was added in several stages to help reduce dryness and maintain a smoother feel while the old pigment was being removed.
Final result
The final result was a soft natural brown that looked lighter, cleaner, and easier to wear every day. The strong contrast between black hair and grey hair became softer, and the layered haircut made the back view look lighter and more dimensional.
How long it takes
The time required depends on the old dye history. Some cases may take around 4–5 hours, while more stubborn black dye buildup can take 7–8 hours. The number of removal rounds is usually decided after checking the hair condition and strand test result.
