AirTouch Balayage to Soften Chunky Highlights and Grey Regrowth

The Starting Point

The client arrived with visible natural regrowth and an older highlight pattern made up of broader, more separated sections. As the roots grew, the difference between the darker new growth and the previously lightened pieces became increasingly clear.

The goal was not simply to make the whole head brighter. It was to redesign the line pattern so future regrowth could sit more softly beside the lighter pieces, while preserving enough depth for the result to remain natural-looking and manageable at home.

How AirTouch Created the Finer Pattern

AirTouch sectioning uses the airflow from a hair dryer to separate each section layer by layer. In this Case, shorter and finer regrowth was separated from the longer, stronger strands. The shorter hair remained within the deeper structure, while selected longer strands were lightened to form fine, softly scattered ribbons.

This distribution created dimension without rebuilding the same block-like highlight pattern. Around the face, selected lighter pieces added a gentle frame rather than a heavy band of brightness.

Grey Blending Through Visual Connection

The brighter, finely distributed ribbons were designed to sit closer visually to new grey hair than the client’s previous chunky highlights did. This can soften the contrast between grey regrowth, the natural base and the lightened pattern as the hair grows.

Grey blending does not provide complete grey coverage. The effect depends on the amount and distribution of grey hair, the natural base, the previous colour and the placement selected during consultation.

One Controlled Lightening Round with 3% Developer

For this appointment, the selected strands were lightened in one round using 3% developer. This was a case-specific choice made to build the new pattern with controlled lightening; it is not a universal formula or a promise that every starting base can reach the same brightness in one appointment.

Olaplex and Treatment Support

Olaplex bond-care support and professional conditioning treatments were included during the service. At the finish, the hair retained a strong, resilient appearance with a smooth straight presentation.

Care support does not eliminate the effects of chemical lightening or erase previous colour history. It works alongside assessment, selective placement, controlled processing and realistic limits for the individual hair condition.

The Finished Result: A Softer Root-to-Length Transition

The final colour moves from a deeper root into fine cool beige-blonde and light-brown ribbons, with less of the hard separation visible in the previous pattern. The straight finish makes the finer vertical distribution clear from both the front and back.
