Long Hair to a Short Layered Bob with Korean-Style Digital Perm

This client wanted a complete change: from long, mostly straight hair to a short, chic layered bob with airy volume and soft, natural-looking curls. Oilly designed the haircut, layer placement and curl direction around her face, personal style and everyday routine.

STARTING POINT

Long, mostly straight hair below the shoulder blades

DESIGN

Short layered bob with face-adjusted Korean Digital Perm

FINISH

Soft natural curls, airy volume and easy home styling

The Brief: Shorter, Lighter and More Expressive

The goal was not simply to remove length. She wanted a shorter silhouette with more personality, natural movement and enough volume to keep the shape from looking flat. The finished style also needed to feel easy to wear with the way she dresses and lives each day.

A Layered Bob Designed before the Curl

The haircut established the balance of the transformation. Length was brought up from below the shoulder blades to a short bob around the jaw and neck, then layers were placed to support movement through the crown, sides and ends. This created the structure the curl pattern needed instead of relying on the perm alone to produce shape.

Curl Placement to Suit the Face

Oilly adjusted the size and direction of the curls to work with the client’s face and the new layered outline. Softer movement around the fringe and face frame keeps the result light, while curved ends and waves through the back give the short bob a fuller, more dimensional silhouette.

A Four-Hour Korean-Style Digital Perm Service

The appointment took approximately four hours and included the layered haircut, Korean-style Digital Perm, professional treatment and final styling. Professional products imported from Taiwan were used as part of the controlled service, with application and processing managed according to the hair and the intended curl result.

Softness, Moisture and Controlled Processing

After the service, the hair looked smooth, glossy and moisturised, with a soft fall rather than a dry or frizzy finish. Product control, treatment and technical handling were used to limit unnecessary damage while helping the new short shape retain softness and movement.

Two Easy Ways to Style It at Home

For a relaxed everyday finish, the client can let the hair air-dry and allow the natural curl pattern to settle. When she wants more volume or clearer curl definition, she can blow-dry while guiding the layers and ends. Oilly demonstrated both options after the service so the new shape would be practical beyond the salon.

The Result: A Short Bob with Natural Korean-Style Movement

The final look transforms long straight hair into a short layered bob with soft volume, face-framing movement and naturally curved ends. The curls support the haircut rather than overpowering it, creating the chic, individual style the client wanted.

A Second Short-Bob Digital Perm Result: Defined Curls with Easy Home Styling

This second real-client example shows another way to design a Korean-style Digital Perm for shorter hair. The starting hair was dense, mostly straight and close to shoulder length, with a comparatively flat outline and slight outward movement at the ends. The goal was a shorter bob with soft, visible curls that would still feel natural and practical to manage at home.

Designing the Curl Pattern around the Hair

A Digital Perm is not planned from a reference photo alone. Oilly assessed the hair condition and density before selecting the professional perm solution, supporting products, rod size, placement and heat settings for this client.

Rod placement and heat control were especially important in the shorter shape. The aim was to create connected movement rather than tight, rigid curls, while avoiding unnecessary dryness or stress during the chemical service. No chemical perm is damage-free, so the formula and process must be adjusted to the hair in front of the stylist.

Haircut, Layers and Texture

The haircut was part of the curl design. Oilly shaped the bob with natural layers while retaining enough visual density for the hair to look full. The layers create space for the curls to separate, and the textured ends help the finished movement look softer instead of forming one heavy block.

From the front, the new shape frames the face with airy movement. From the back and side, the curls form a rounded silhouette with visible separation, shine and a smooth, weighted fall.

Approximately Four Hours for This Case

This individual appointment took approximately four hours, including the haircut, customized Digital Perm process, treatment and finishing. Actual timing varies with hair length, density, condition, previous chemical history and the curl design selected after assessment.

Professional perm products imported from Taiwan were used for this case. Product choice, rod placement and machine heat were controlled according to the client’s hair and the intended result; the same combination is not automatically suitable for every client.

Finished with Oilly Laurel Oil Hair Mask

The service was finished with Oilly Laurel Oil Hair Mask, a rinse-out treatment imported from Taiwan. It was used to support softness, smoothness, shine and manageability after the perm. The mask can also be used as part of the client’s ongoing home-care routine.

Conditioning care can improve the feel and appearance of chemically treated hair, but it does not reverse structural chemical change. Gentle handling and suitable aftercare remain important.

Simple Home Styling for This Curl Pattern

For the curl pattern created in this case, home styling can be straightforward: gently scrunch the hair, then let it air-dry naturally or use a diffuser. Because the finished curls already have visible definition, the demonstrated routine does not require repeatedly twisting each section by hand.

The exact dried result still depends on the client’s natural texture, haircut, products and drying method. Oilly explains the suitable routine after the service so the client can reproduce the intended shape more easily at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why was the layered bob cut before the Digital Perm?

The haircut created the structure for the new short silhouette. The layers gave the curl pattern room to move through the crown, sides and ends instead of relying on the perm alone for shape.

How long did this Korean-style Digital Perm service take?

Approximately four hours, including the layered haircut, Digital Perm, professional treatment and final styling.

Can this short perm be air-dried at home?

Yes. Air-drying gives a more relaxed natural finish. Blow-drying while guiding the layers can add more volume and clearer curl definition.

What products were used for this case?

The service used professional salon products imported from Taiwan. Product choice, application and processing were controlled according to the client’s hair condition and the planned curl result.
