She wanted to change her look and refresh her style. The brief was clear: more volume, more layers than before, and waves that would still look good when she simply let her hair air-dry.

Why a Korean Digital Perm With 25 mm Rods

For this brief Oilly recommended a Korean-style digital perm with 25 mm rods, sized for a soft, natural S-wave rather than a tight curl.

With a digital perm, the heat and the perm solution have to be set to match the hair's condition. How the rods are arranged during winding matters just as much, so the hair does not frizz or stick out and stays soft and smooth. Keeping the hair from drying out or being damaged was the goal throughout; a perm is still a chemical service, so the plan always follows the individual hair.

Taiwanese Perm Solution and a Slide-Layer Cut

The perm took about 4 hours, using a perm solution imported from Taiwan, and the hair had soft texture and volume straight away.

A slide-layer cut then shaped the waves and gave the hair dimension. On fine hair, the cut is as important as the perm itself.

Finished With Oilly Laurel Oil Hair Mask

To finish, Oilly used the salon's own Oilly Laurel Oil Hair Mask as an intensive rinse-off treatment, leaving the hair moisturised and smooth, with a soft weight to the fall.

The After photos show soft S-waves and layered volume through hair that was completely straight before.
