Henna and Long-Term Black Hair Colour Removal in Bangkok

This client had repeatedly coloured her hair very dark, with a history that also included henna. She wanted a brighter, more distinctive look while keeping the overall result soft, so Oilly designed a balanced brown using both warm and cool tones.

STARTING POINT

Long-term dark black colour mixed with a henna history

CORRECTION PLAN

Two cream-removal rounds followed by two colour applications

FINISH

Balanced warm-cool brown with a softer, brighter appearance

Why This Was Not a Standard Recolouring Appointment

Years of dark colour, henna and previously lightened versus non-lightened areas had left an uneven starting base. This meant the service could not be planned like a simple one-step brown recolour.

The priority was to remove enough of the dark artificial colour to create a workable base, then rebalance the different levels without pushing the hair further than the condition allowed.

Before and After

The starting point was long, heavily darkened hair with a mixed colour history. The finished result is a softer dimensional brown with a more even visual transition through the lengths.

Two Controlled Removal Rounds without Bleach Powder

For the dark-colour removal stage in this case, Oilly used the salon’s cream colour remover rather than bleach powder. The removal was completed in two controlled rounds.

This was a case-specific decision based on the client’s colour history and the response of the hair during the service. It is not a promise that every black-dye or henna case can follow the same process.

Why the Colour Had to Be Applied Twice

After the removal stage, the base did not lift to one identical level. Some sections had a previous lightening history while others did not, so a single colour application would not have balanced the result evenly.

Oilly applied colour twice, adjusting the formula to connect the different levels and create a more consistent brown from the upper section through the ends.

Preserving the Natural Upper Section

The upper section was not lightened further. This retained more of the natural growth area and allowed the colour design to connect it with the lengths rather than creating a new hard contrast.

The goal was a softer transition, so future regrowth would not immediately appear disconnected from the corrected ends.

Protection and Treatment throughout the Service

Olaplex and Oilly Laurel Oil Hair Mask treatment were used during the correction process to support the hair through a long technical service.

The finished photos show visible shine, smooth movement and retained density. Colour correction still carries a risk of dryness or weakness, especially after a complex history, so the condition of the hair must guide every stage.

The Result: A Balanced Warm-Cool Brown

After almost seven hours, the heavy dark appearance was transformed into a brighter brown that blends warm and cool tones. The colour adds softness around the face while the back view shows a more even connection from the upper section into the long ends.

This result belongs to this individual case. Hair with a different henna product, dye history, porosity or condition may respond differently and may need another plan or more than one appointment.

Aftercare after Henna and Black-Colour Correction

The client received home-care guidance for maintaining both the colour and the feel of the hair. Gentle cleansing, regular conditioning and continued treatment support help protect the finish after a major correction.

Before booking a similar service, send clear current photos and share the full history of henna, black dye, previous lightening, straightening or perm services. The consultation history is essential to planning safely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can henna and long-term black dye be removed in one visit?

This case was completed in one appointment of almost seven hours, but that does not guarantee the same timeline for every client. The product history, number of dark-dye layers, existing lightened areas and current hair condition all affect the plan.

Was bleach powder used to remove the dark colour in this case?

No bleach powder was used for the dark-colour removal stage in this case. Oilly used the salon’s cream colour remover in two controlled rounds. Another client may require a different technical plan after consultation and testing.

Why were two colour applications needed?

The starting base contained different levels from previously lightened and non-lightened areas. Two applications allowed the formula to be adjusted and the uneven levels to be connected more consistently.

Was the upper section lightened again?

No. The upper section was not lightened further. The colour was designed to preserve that area and blend it into the corrected lengths for a softer future grow-out.

What should I tell the salon before a henna colour correction?

Share every detail you know: the henna product, black or dark dyes, approximate dates, previous bleaching or lightening, straightening, perming and current home care. Clear current photos are also important.
