Hippie Cold Perm for Partially Bleached Hair
A real Bangkok case showing how Oilly designed a hippie cold perm for thick hair with partially lightened areas after checking condition and elasticity in person.
Straight, frizz-prone and difficult to style
Partially lightened to approximately level 7–8
Natural S-shaped hippie cold-perm curls
Approximately 3–4 hours
From straight and frizz-prone to expressive hippie curls
The client wanted to move away from straight hair that felt frizzy and difficult to style. Her goal was a naturally voluminous hippie-curl look with a relaxed, slightly undone finish that suited her personality, makeup and wardrobe.
From straight, frizz-prone hair to springy S-shaped hippie curls
The before view shows the original straighter texture, darker regrowth and lighter previously processed lengths. The finished result shows defined S-shaped curls, natural volume and visible movement.
After
BeforeAssessing partially bleached hair before the perm
Part of the hair had previously been lightened to approximately level 7–8. However, the client’s strands were relatively thick and still had good resilience. Oilly checked the condition, elasticity and lightened areas in detail before deciding that a cold-perm design could be adapted to this specific starting point.
This assessment applies only to this client. Hair with a similar-looking colour history may respond differently, so suitability must be checked in person before any perm.
Japanese perm solution, Korean rods and controlled processing
We used professional perm solution from Japan and adjusted the formula, processing time, tension and handling for the condition of each area. Korean-made perm rods were selected to build natural S-shaped curls with volume, dimension and a compact, springy response—without making every curl look rigid or identical.
Conditioning care for the previously lightened ends
Conditioning care was included during the service, with extra attention to the ends that had been lightened before. We finished with the rinse-out Oilly Laurel Oil Hair Mask to help the hair feel softer and smoother, with more shine, movement and natural fall after the chemical service.
The result, service time and two ways to style at home
The finished curls looked defined and springy while still moving naturally. The hair retained a soft, smooth feel, and the relaxed hippie shape was designed to be practical for home styling.
This case took approximately three to four hours. Actual timing varies because each person’s hair develops curl at a different speed. Before the client left, we demonstrated two finishing options: styling for a tighter, clearer curl pattern, or allowing the hair to dry naturally for a softer and more relaxed result.
Frequently Asked Questions
Sometimes, but only after an individual assessment. The current condition, elasticity, strand strength and location of the lightened areas all affect whether a perm is suitable.
For this client’s partially lightened hair, a tailored cold-perm approach was selected after checking the strands in person. This does not mean cold perm is automatically suitable for every bleached-hair case.
This case took approximately three to four hours. Processing time varies because different hair responds and develops curl at different speeds.
For a clearer curl pattern, style and define the curl groups. For a softer result, allow the hair to dry naturally with minimal handling. Oilly demonstrates both methods after the service.
No. The curl design, rod size, formula, timing and tension are adjusted to the starting condition, haircut, density and desired finish of each client.
Not sure whether your bleached hair can be permed?
Send clear photos of your current hair and tell us about previous bleach, colour, straightening and perm services. Oilly will assess the condition before recommending whether cold perm, another approach or no perm is the safer direction.
