Korean S-Wave Digital Perm After a Second Strand Test in Bangkok
This client wanted to repeat a digital perm and create large Korean-style S-waves with the polished movement of a BaByliss finish, but with a shape that would be easier to manage in daily life. Because her hair had been permed before—and an earlier strand test overseas had resulted in the service being declined—Oilly began with a new strand test rather than assuming that the hair could or could not be permed from appearance alone.
Long dark hair with previous perm history
Fresh strand test and current-condition reassessment
Layered shaping with a 25 mm Korean S-wave digital perm
Approximately 4–5 hours
Why the Second Strand Test Mattered
A previous salon overseas had tested the hair and advised that another perm could not proceed. Oilly did not treat that earlier decision as wrong, nor did we assume that a different result was guaranteed. Hair condition, chemical history, elasticity and response can change, and each salon may assess a different section under different conditions.
For this appointment, Oilly performed a fresh strand test and reassessed the hair’s current strength, elasticity, previous perm history and response to the intended solution. The result supported proceeding with a carefully customized service for this client at this time. It should not be generalized to every person whose hair has previously been declined for a perm.
Finished front view: soft face-framing movement with a relaxed, polished finish.

The Client’s Goal: Large Korean S-Waves for Daily Life
The client wanted a repeat digital perm with large, relaxed S-shaped movement rather than tight curls. Her reference was the natural finish created with a large BaByliss curling iron: polished enough to frame the face, but soft enough to feel wearable every day.
The design also needed to be practical. The aim was to create visible movement through the mid-lengths and ends while making the finished shape easier to recreate with light blow-drying at home.
A 25 mm Heated-Rod Digital Perm Plan
Oilly selected large 25 mm heated rods to build a broad S-wave pattern. Rod placement, direction and tension were planned with the layered shape so the waves could fall separately, move naturally and maintain volume without becoming compact or overly tight.
The haircut was refined with layers to remove visual heaviness and help the finished waves travel through the lengths. The back result shows the wider wave pattern, while the front view shows softer movement around the face.
Controlled Product, Timing and Temperature
A professional digital-perm solution imported from Taiwan was selected for the service. Application, processing time, rod tension and temperature were adjusted according to the hair’s current condition and the response observed during assessment.
Digital perm is a chemical and heat-based service, so it should not be described as damage-free. Careful control is intended to reduce unnecessary damage and dryness while creating a more consistent curl pattern; it does not guarantee suitability, strength or curl longevity for every client.
A Four-to-Five-Hour Customized Service
The complete appointment took approximately four to five hours. This included reassessment, layered shaping, product application, 25 mm rod placement, controlled heating, technical perm steps, care during the process and final styling.
The timing belongs to this case rather than every digital perm. Hair length, density, existing chemical history, strand-test response and the chosen curl design can all change the service plan and duration.
Finishing Care with Oilly Laurel Oil Hair Mask
After the perm, Oilly Laurel Oil Hair Mask was used as a rinse-out finishing treatment. It supported a softer, smoother, shinier and more manageable feel while helping the finished waves fall with a polished outline.
A conditioning mask can support the feel and appearance of chemically treated hair, but it does not reverse structural change. Gentle handling and suitable at-home care remain important after a perm.
The Finished Korean S-Wave Result
The finished hair shows large S-shaped waves through the long layered lengths, with visible movement and volume through the mid-lengths and ends. The dark hair retains a soft, glossy finish rather than appearing stiff or tightly curled.
From the front, the face-framing sections move away from the face with a relaxed curve. From the back, the separated wave pattern creates a fuller silhouette while preserving the length.
How Oilly Teaches At-Home Styling
Every digital-perm case includes a hand-blow-dry demonstration. Oilly shows the client how to guide the curl direction, shape the ends and create different finishes without relying on a complicated daily routine.
Before beginning, we explain how the curl design will fit the client’s lifestyle and what home care will be required. Clients who are worried about styling can send current-hair photos and their chemical history through LINE or WhatsApp before booking the actual Perm service; final suitability and design are confirmed from the hair condition before the service begins.
Frequently Asked Questions
It can, because the tested section, current hair condition, elapsed time, intended product and assessment method may differ. A different result does not prove the first assessment was wrong. Oilly uses the current strand test only to decide what is appropriate for that individual appointment.
No. Previous perm, straightening, colour, bleach, keratin and home-care history can affect suitability. Current strength, elasticity and strand-test response must be assessed before the service begins.
No. Rod size depends on hair length, density, layer structure, desired wave size and the way the hair responds. This case used 25 mm heated rods to create broad S-shaped movement on long hair.
This appointment took approximately four to five hours. The actual time can change with hair length, density, chemical history, assessment results, haircut design and the technical process required.
Oilly demonstrates hand-blow-drying and curl-direction techniques after the service. The goal is to help each client recreate the intended wave pattern with a practical routine suited to the haircut and daily lifestyle.
